The physics and the future of humanity course is an optional course for students majoring in science and Engineering (general education). This course using an intuitive image and very little elementary mathematics to cultivate the scientific literacy of college students through physics which is one of the most important basic in science, and to summarizes highly the mechanics, optics, electromagnetics, thermodynamics, relativity and quantum physics which contains the basic knowledge and scientific thinking, scientific method and scientific spirit, pay attention to the theory with practice, reflect the new technological advances and the related social issues, the latest application of physics principle in culture, economy, politics, social network and technology in daily life.
The main contents of this course are: classical physics (including mechanics, thermodynamics, electromagnetics, optics and atomic physics); the theory of relativity and the modern concept of time and space; quantum idea; quantum field; economical physics; big date and social physics; new frontier science about how to decide the fate and change of humanity.
This course is of great significance to the cultivation of Undergraduates' scientific and cultural quality. Through the study of this course, the students can have a macroscopic understanding of physics. Students will obtain the ability of logical thinking, problem solving ability and improve the ability to receive new things, look at the future of humanity with science and development way, cause the deep thinking of where humanity come from and where to go.
There is no pre - course requirement in this course. Mathematics is limited to elementary mathematics (very small). It is especially suitable for the students who’s major in humanities or social sciences and who want to have a macro and general understanding of physics.
